Where it all began, really. This was the first 'indiepop' song I wrote after buying a guitar (I'd played synth prior to that). I was deeply in love with The Wedding Present, The Chesterfields 'Kettle', and Close Lobsters' 'Foxheads Stalk This Land' in particular, as you can hear in the vocal delivery of the first two lines on this version.

I remember recording this quite vividly. It was a Summers day, and the rest of the family were in the garden. I crept inside and, embarrassed, quickly committed my song to tape. We had a portable Hitachi TV/radio/cassette combo that had quite a nice little mic built in, I pressed play on the drum machine and that was that. 'Let's form an indiepop band'. I've left what was already on the tape at the start, because what's not to like about John Peel talking about I, Ludicrous? I think that dates this recording to July 1988.

I'm aware of the self indulgence of posting these songs and writing about them. I'm just doing it for my own entertainment, rather than implying they're of any value!
